At Willowbrook Dental Clinic in Langley, our dentists recommend sports mouth guards to protect your children while they play sports.
Protecting Your Child's Teeth, Mouth & Jaw
Mouth guards protect children's teeth, mouths and jaws from damage while they are playing sports. Custom-made mouth guards can provide protection, and are usually better than a generic mouth guard.
Why should children wear mouth guards?
A custom-made mouth guard will protect children's teeth, and also their necks, mouths, and jaws during sports. They can even provide some protection for their heads, which can help to prevent concussions.
Sports guards are an important part of a child's sports equipment, just like hockey helmets or shin guards are.
How are custom-fitted mouth guards made?
Fitting your child with a custom mouth guard requires two separate appointments.
During the first appointment, we will make an impression of your child's teeth. This impression will be sent to our lab, where the sports guard will be made. During the second appointment, our team will make sure the mouth guard fits snugly and comfortably in your child's mouth.
Will my insurance plan cover the expense of a mouth guard for my child?
Some insurance plans will cover a portion or all of the expense of children's custom-fitted mouth guards, but some don't. For more detail, contact your insurance provider.
